Process

I began this project by researching various hotel sites and job board sites. That helped me get an understanding of what elements and layout should be used for this project. The client gave us a quick turn around so I quickly generated some sketches, but I made sure to take ample time when thinking through the filtering functionality for the job board pages.

The second step was to create high-fidelity designs. I introduced a color scheme that was consistent with charlotte sports teams to help get the attention of the site users. The client provided us with a video of well-known charlotte landmarks so I made that the hero background so it would be the first thing student see. The difficult part was creating the job board page for each hotel. The client wanted us to create a filtering system that allowed the user to quickly change job categories. We came up with a system so users could select a specific job type to see what’s available. We also implemented a live search field so when you type in a job title it will be reflected in the window below.

The last step was to support the engineer that was coding the site. I provided him with all logos and image assets. We ran into some difficulties with some interaction in the mobile layout specifically the drop-down menu. We were able to lock in the height of the hotel drop-down lists to prevent the menu from being longer than the mobile viewport. The site looked exactly how I designed it.

Outcome

We delivered an awesome site to our client that they loved. I was asked to speak at a corporate event to introduce the site to the important people in the community. The site was even shown at various high school job fairs around the city and students began to apply to jobs.
